Starting as a small custom cabinet shop on Long Island in 1948, Topping & Co. has grown to be one of the largest area rug dealers in the Rochester Area. Always a family business, dedicated to product knowledge and customer service., Bill Sr., Pauline, all three children, Bill Jr., Deborah, and Valerie participated in the business.
Relocating to Rochester in the early 60's Bill Topping Sr. opened Furn-i-craft an unfinished furniture store specializing in high quality ready to finish furniture. located on Dewey Avenue in Greece, NY
Shortly after they opened Clocks and Candles on Ridge Rd West a specialty gift store specializing in gifts (mostly waxy ones), decorative accessories, and clocks..In fact they were the first specialty clock store in the Rochester area.
Next was the "Clock Shop and Emporium" on Schoen Place in Pittsford.
Seeing the need to consolidate all three stores were brought together at another Ridge Rd. location using the Topping & Co. name. There in addition to Clocks, they sold various reproduction furniture and became the pre-eminent Leather Furniture dealer. In fact they were the first leather furniture specialist in Upstate New York.
It was at this time that the Rug department grew to one of the largest selections of area rugs in Upstate, and without question the largest display of braided rugs available anywhere.
In 1993 they had an option to relocate, still on Ridge Rd, but now in Brockport(Clarkson) where i additionb to Leatrher, Clocks, Giftsthey were a Yield House franchise dealer.
The death of two of the family members in 2000 and 2005 put activity on hold, but Bill Sr. and Bill Jr. are now back in business Bill Sr. doing clock repair and Bill Jr. "running" the store..
